Aromatherapy
In aromatherapy, essential oils taken from the flowers, stem, barks, leaves and other parts of plants are applied during a massage, making it even more relaxing and beneficial than massage alone.

Aromatherapy tends to use gentle massage to help you relax and release any tension in the body. As your muscles are massaged, the oil works both through its aromas as you inhale it and as it is absorbed into your skin, this can:

  • Lift your mood
  • Improve your cardiovascular system
  • Regulate hormonal activity
  • Alleviate pain
  • Boost your immune system
  • Aid your nervous system
  • Increase cognitive function

Before I use the oils, I add them to a carrier oil or base oil and mix in different quantities and combinations depending upon your ailment or what you’d like the session to achieve. Different oils have different healing properties, for example, I use lavender oil for headaches, hypertension, bruises, stress and it also has a sedative effect, I use bergamot oil with skin problems and orange oil is commonly used to help people recover from colds and flu.

I am fully trained to practise aromatherapy and have a lovely, quiet treatment room in Thornbury where you can relax and unwind to your heart’s content. After an aromatherapy massage you will feel totally relaxed, content and well, some people even say it feels like they are walking on air!

Hot stones
Hot stones therapy has only relatively recently been used in the Western world though it has been known for having healing properties for about 3000 years. It is a gentle way of treating muscle tension and clients find it extremely relaxing – it is reported as being 10 times as relaxing as a standard massage, just imagine that!

I heat the smooth, flat, stones then place them in specific places along the client’s back, the heat helps the muscles to relax so that I can massage the area lightly. This form of treatment is particularly suited to people who want a gentle, relaxing treatment.

As well as relaxing the muscles, hot stones treatment improves circulation, meaning that blood flow increases to any trouble areas you may have to aid with recovery. Hot stones treatment also calms the nervous system and helps to flush out waste products and toxins from the lymphatic system.

Hot stones treatment can help people with a number of conditions including:

  • Depression
  • Osteoarthritis and arthritic pain
  • Back aches and pains
  • Poor circulation
  • Stress
  • Insomnia

It is a relaxing treatment and aids relaxation at a muscular level. Because of the detoxing property of hot stones massage, I always advise clients to drink plenty of water to help their bodies flush out toxins after their treatment. I am trained and experienced in using this to help people with all sorts of conditions, or you may want to just come along to experience the amazing sensation of peace, warmth and relaxation.
